who are we?
nonbinarycode are a four piece queer alt/pop-punk band from Canberra / Ngunnawal, Australia. InkBits vocals will hit you right in the heart, while The Hardman’s screaming grungy guitar sounds, Sorrento’s thumping bass lines, and Racso’s driving beats keep you fascinated. nonbinarycode are as difficult to define genre-wise as they are brilliant – from raucous guitar driven pop-punk, to melodic ballads, it’s all in a days work for these awesome humans.

history
nonbinarycode were formed in 2019 as the brainchild of InkBits (they/them) and The Hardman (he/him). Earlier they’d both worked together in a Dresden Dolls cover band called Dethroned Dullness, with the incomparable Jazida making up a trio.
It was during this time that the very seeds of nonbinarycode were formed, with Jazida, InkBits and The Hardman penning initial versions of Hey Let’s Play, Break Free, and The Aether as piano ballads.

After several years as a duo (and several attempts at various band configurations) they were joined in 2023 by the equally brilliant Sorrento (they/them) on Bass, and Racso (he/him) on Drums. It was here that nonbinarycode really took off. They quickly found their sound as a four piece band, and have continued to release genre-busting hits that challenge prejudice and reframe attitudes.

why we exist
When InkBits and The Hardman were growing up and beginning to question our gender and sexual identities, it was incredibly difficult to find visible, proud role models – people we could point to and say “If they can live authentically, then maybe I can too”. Representation was scarce, and many of us had to navigate those deeply personal questions in silence and isolation.

A recent Minus18 study found that 86% of young people feel safer and more belonging when they see rainbow or ally accessories. nonbinarycode exists to be the example we didn’t have – to be loud, proud, and unapologetically visible. We are here to show that queer and neurodiverse people can make it in life – not by conforming, but by embracing who we are, fully and fiercely.

We are unapologetically Queer, we are Loud, and we are Proud!!

the band

InkBits (they/them)
InkBits is the heart of nonbinarycode, delivering unfiltered punk energy through every word and performance. As the band’s primary lyricist, they craft songs that cut deep with authenticity, pairing vulnerable truths with fearless frankness. With a vocal style that’s both passionate and commanding, InkBits captures audiences from the first note and holds them until the last.

The Hardman (he/him)
The Hardman is more than a multi-instrumentalist and producer — their energy drives the sound of nonbinarycode. Their guitar riffs are heavy, unfiltered, and unapologetically loud. Both on stage and in the studio, The Hardman brings a raw, focused intensity that has become a defining part of the band’s identity.

Sorrento (they/them)
Sorrento is a multi-instrumentalist whose passion for sound borders on obsession. As the bassist for nonbinarycode, they carve out a space with their inventive, groove-driven style. Known for delivering basslines that are equal parts sneaky, dynamic, and unforgettable, Sorrento brings a fresh pulse to the band — one designed to get every audience moving.

Racso (he/him)
Racso is a heavy-hitting multi-instrumentalist, recording engineer & producer whose drumming brings raw power and precision to nonbinarycode. With an explosive style and an ear for detail, he drives the band’s rhythm with unmatched energy and intensity. Whether on stage or in the studio, Racso’s dynamic playing anchors the sound and delivers the impact that sets nonbinarycode apart.
